“75 & Sunny”
july 13 - august 10
ashton gallery
san diego, ca

My largest piece to date is also my most expressive and loose piece with almost no paint! Combine that fact with its extra large size and I was risking not being juried into the show (it was my only entry). The cream color is basically the only acrylic paint…the rest was created with a wide variety of drawing materials.

This piece started with a small gift that was wrapped in bright lemon yellow paper. As soon as I saw it, I unwrapped it carefully because I knew instantly that I had to use it for the 75 & Sunny show. I heard that the juror called it strong, dramatic, and bold. A perfect fit for a high-rise contemporary condo with white walls. Then she gave it the 1st Place award, which is right behind Best in Show! I was thrilled all-around.

It was juried by Cindy Blumkin, owner and curator of ArtnSoul 101 gallery.

“28th annual juried exhibition”
july 19 - august 24
athenaeum music & arts library
la jolla, ca

I took a chance on this one and let the main color, Nickel Azo Yellow, show off its wide range: from dark tan to vibrant citron. I was so excited when I heard that it had been accepted into Athenaeum's “28th Annual Juried Exhibition,” one of the most prestigious exhibits in the San Diego area.

It was juried by Anthony Graham and Alana Hernandez, curators at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

“the power of small things:
National exhibit”
August 17 - September 29
PORT ANGELES FINE ARTS CENTER
Port Angeles, WA

I typically like to work in a wide variety of sizes to make my art as accessible as possible, especially on open studio nights. I create a new set of work to reveal on those nights…including 3-4 small pieces ranging from 8” to 12”. I was thrilled to hear that all three of my entries into “The Power of Small Things” was accepted by the juror panel, considering it was a heavily entered national show!
